The Gilmer midgets keep coming up. To add to the collection, here's the #22 with a driver, from December 1988. I think that's 11....Jan built approx 120 I believe, so there are still plenty out there!

Not really off thread... I found this photo on a trip around the 'net and saved it. Only yesterday when I looked closely did I see the # 82 Gilmer, from an earlier post, in the bottom of the frame...This guy from New York likes his rare 1/4 scale toys.... A Raco Indy car.... He also has this... a Race Tech Defiant

I actually purchased a bit of the tooling for the edmunds cars. I have the wheel molds, tire molds and also the rear end molds. The stuff is pretty killer looking and he only made very few of these cars.

your welcome anytime bob. I never even heard of the stuff until I bought it. The rears are a bit smaller then a skellenger. I asked Don why he did not use the skellengers and he told me they were way off from being scale for the cars he wanted to build. The rears were not built to have gears, but you could probably make them work. Can you imagine scoring one of his cars?!?!??!

Mike, I'm thinking that the number of cars that Jan Gilmer built compared to Don Edmunds, makes Gilmer's cars seem positively commercial. Do you ever see any of the Edmunds midgets come up for sale in the 'States Although.... if I owned one of these, I probably never want to part with it!!! There is absolutely nothing to suggest that this car is not a full size midget..

no, I have never seen one for sale anywhere. I should look for my emails from Don. I think he told me how many were made and I believe it was just a small handfull. He still has a couple he saved for himself.

Don Edmunds' cut away drawings of his Offenhauser Midget. 1/4 scale of full-size? Looks exactly the same!

This guy is amazing.....look at this ... The Gilmore Speedway Special is powered by an overhead valve 4 cylinder ignition engine, and is the most complex running model ever built by Don Edmunds. It took 8 years to complete, and this is the only one he ever made. Truly a fine piece of automotive art and tribute to it's builder.

How's this for timing..... Today is Don Edmunds birthday....born September 23rd 1930. Happy birthday to one of the premier model builders in the world!

Mike, No I didn't know that! Man... I also wish you had purchased the body molds. The Edmunds car would be the last on my bucket list, however that prospect seems an impossible dream. Although..... I never anticipated on owning what I have now ...so be careful what you dream for....... as it very often comes true!
