Thanks for that Bob. Still needs a bit of work and money spent on it. Could you imagine the shipping cost to get it here. needs wings, tank, carb, would need to be stripped and checked. Probably a bit out of my reach at the moment. Looks like it would need tyres aswell. Sort of why I would rather try and get one locally. I know what its worth to ship a blank hull from the states and I could only imagine what it would be worth. Thanks for he link its appreciated. You really sure you dont want to sell one of yours

Jay, Shipping 1/4 scale from the USA is not too bad in my opinion. I've bought 7 cars from the 'States by USPOST and I thought the costs were quite reasonable. I suppose it's just a matter of how much you want the car, or what ever it is you are purchasing.. The cars I purchased would never be available down here, so the shipping cost was a price I had to pay, to fulfil my dreams. Anyway ... the price is long forgotten once the enjoyment factor kicks in! That's my theory. We'll keep looking Bud. Mate, at this stage my WCM cars are not for sale. Down the track, when I sort out the best 2 chassis', the other 2 may be on the market. Bear with me here Jay. I'm reluctant to part with my WCMs because it took me so long to acquire them. Back in 1988 I contacted, I think it was Carroll Cheek at WCM, with the intent of purchasing a going 1/4 scale sprintcar. He was not very helpful and put up so many barriers to me getting one of his cars down here, I eventualy told him to "get stuffed". I relayed that story to current WCM CEO, Mark Hogue when he visited Sydney last year. He laughed and said the story didn't surprise him. I suspect Cheek was a bit of a character. Fast forward to the mid 2000s and beyond and through luck and judicious buying I end up with 4 WCM sprinters, at a lessor price than that silly old goat Cheek quoted all those years earlier. That's why I not keen on unloading one just yet.

Yeah tell me about the shipping. I really want a 66inch Carbon boat from the USA. Price was good at $500 USD as a bare hull and hatch. Then they wanted another $800 USD to ship it and 4 weeks delivery. I did some research, And found that the import duties her in OZ were a further $480 aud. At the time $ near on $ 2000 grand for boat alone was pretty steep. Add the running gear, 35cc quick draw engine pipe carby engine mounts water pumps clutch drive shafts countless props in pairs as it was duel propped. and the figures were adding upto just over $6K..........Couldnt justify the cost of not being able to sit in it and go for a ski behind it so I didnt go ahead with the build. Sold everything off for what it cost me and kept the engine and all the engine mounts pipe clutch mounts etc.

You can get cars shipped to Australia pretty cheap if you shop around. Trouble is with the dollar diving again the cars themselves are not getting any cheaper though. I have about a dozen WCM's now, and several Supermods, among quite a few other cars and Conley's, but given that they are coming up less and less each year and a lot of Americans simply won't ship to Australia I won't sell any of them anymore, where in the past I might have been tempted if someone needed one. Even if I never used them they would most likely just sit in the garage in case I ever got back to them. Another factor to consider is that even if I were to sell one, it wouldn't be listed for anything under $2k given what's being asked for locally made equivalents. You're better off just buying one internationally and forgetting about cost. With the one on eBay at the moment, it looks to be missing some bars, so it might pay to check that out before considering buying it. I also called a mate (here in NSW) who has a substantial collection of cars (23 sprint cars alone without adding in the rest of them) and even though he's getting on in years he won't part with any yet either. If he considers selling any I'll let you know. Dan
As a footnote....I was going to give away a Delara Supermod, but only to someone who contributed the most to a Forum, showing their projects or cars, but it seemed like people just couldn't be bothered sharing. It now sits in the garage with the sprintcars. Good luck getting someone to sell a car, when most won't even share details on what they have.

Just in the process of re-building a sprintcar.Think it's a WCM, all the joints are braised not welded. Have photos from the bare chassis prior to sand blasting, in the under coat stage. Back from the powder coaters, motor mounted, rear end in, front end mounted, radio gear in place, side panels on. Just have to paint the tank tail and bonnet and mount the front wing.

So pretty much what your saying is people that have sprint cars and by the sounds of it many people have more than one even to get new people into the hobby and into the clubs for number strength no one will sell a car. Thats a bit selfish. When i have a new customer come to me to build them boat not only do i build them the boat supply them with all the instructions, a list of parts that they will need in the future, a basic tool box to get them out of trouble, a manual on how to maintain the boat and engine, But I also take my rescue boat out set the engine needles help them trim the boat and show them how to operate the boat.

My friend who has been collecting since the early 1990's, and who has 23 of them just won't sell, well not at the moment anyway. Like me he is a collector, and I guess the way to collect is buy, not sell. I hear what you're saying about bringing new people into the hobby though. When I first started collecting I found exactly the same thing. It was hard to find any for sale, even back then, or if they did come up for sale they were expensive, or the collectors were all over them and I missed out. I think it's just a matter of persistence. The fact that I had to work so hard to find them made them sentimentally more valuable to me. Have you considered building one? In all reality there isn't much too them. If you got some tube from any number of suppliers and an oxy, mig or tig, they'd be easy to build. Any measurements you want I'd be happy to provide. The satisfaction factor in building one would be more rewarding in the end. Alternatively, they do come up for sale....maybe just not locally (at least the WCM's). There might be 10 or 12 a year on eBay....maybe a few more. You just have to pay a bit for them. It helps to know some of the Americans who can get them shipped for you if the seller "won't ship outside the Lower 48" as they mostly say. There are a few people who can help out with that. Dan

Its a shame No one wants to sell. Im not one to sit and wait. Ill build one myself. Could you send me the dimensions please Dan. ill set the car up with my own Ideas. I have some insight on how to set them up.
I just dont understand why people wont sell. With 23 sprint cars surely he wouldnt miss one. Not even looking for a going car as i already have engines and radio gear. Just pretty Frustrating.

Sometimes it works out cheaper and less of a headache to go and buy one already complete, and ready to go.

Gday Jay Welcome the the world of 1/4 scale. Have you been talking to George @ Hobby Depot??? about getting a Sprint. Mate Im Also a boat racer for 30 odd years now who has a few sprints and its not that the guys are being selfish but the guys know the cars are super cool looking and they also will not be able to find one at the drop of a hat so they tend to hold onto them. What is it you want to do with your 1/4 scale sprintcar thats also what you need to think about if its racing than a WCM isnt the way to go as they bend. So if wanting to race or carpark bash go get one of Terry Benets cars or a Hi-line out of QLD as they are stronger and parts are avalible local. If you want your car to just sit on your shelf than yes look for a good WCM or Delara but then you will have to forget getting one local you will have to bring it over from the USA. Shipping isnt as bad as you think my 1/4 Synthar tunnel cost me only $300 USD to get it shipped out as you also have tunnels you know the size of that. Sprints are able to come over with US Postal Service from about $150-$200 USD and not to be RUDE but if you want to play 1/4 SCLAE forget the cost as If you keep tally of the $$$$ you will go nuts over how much you have spent in the end . All the best mate with your hunt. Thanks Brad

cost isn't the issue my propeller collection I would hate to add up the amount of money per prop. im putting together 2 boats at the moment first one owes the best part of $4K wd200 gearbox 35cc quickdraw arneson style drives and its not finished, my tunnel boat has a 2 brothers lower with an M and D cast engine on it, with a robot servo for steering and savox throttle servo with an eddy de vries samba outboard pipe. the tunnel boat is around 60 inches in length.
I also have my own molds of the famous everingham boats.(yes these were purchased from MR Everingham himself.) I understand the cost, as I build boats for customers as I said, the thing that confuses me is that a post at the top says a bloke who is a little later on in life has 23 sprint cars and wont part with one that's all. just don't understand it. If the gentleman had 2 or 3 three I can understand but 23 and wont sell even one that's not really sentimental.
Anyway got a call from a gentleman tonight by the name of brett nice bloke he has a car going to see it next week so ill keep you all posted
