Before there were people making 1/4 scale sprintcars, the car of choice to use as a sprintcar was the Jac Rabbit Buggy, made by RACO. For the mid to late 1980's it was not a bad looking sprintcar. I think production may have ceased in '90 or '91.This is what they looked like in the buggy form.

Imagine the sheer excitement nearly 2 1/2 decades ago when this ad came out. Most of us were running 1/10 th scale electric buggies.....US $999 for the Jac rabbit in 1985. According to my rough numbers, that means the Jac Rabbit cost approx the equivalent of US $3500 or AUD $5000 in todays dollars back them....whew..... Bit more expensive than a BAJA.
