On my adventures around the 'net I often recall things from the past and I go and seek answers. This time it was Ascot Speedway in southern LA Ca. This 1/2 mile dirt track was famous for weekly wingless sprint car and midget shows. In 1990 developers bought the land and bulldozed the track with the intention of building a shopping mall and apartments. It never happened and the remains of the track can still be seen today, after nearly 20 years. What a waste! There appears to be hardly any video of racing at Ascot, however I found this compilation with most of it shot there. Quality is not great. Ascot is the track with the famous signage boards along the backstraight.au.youtube.com/watch?v=TE-7Lt4JZVYA montage of still photos from Ascot.au.youtube.com/watch?v=gEISZRa0HbM

More video from Ascot Speedway. A wingless sprintcar show it says.. It's not great quality, but it's history! BTW.... it's either a sprintcar show or a winged sprintcar show! There is no such thing as a wingless sprintcar show. Sprintcars originally did not have wings!www.racertube.com/component/option,com_seyret/Itemid,158/id,273/task,videodirectlink/

Bob: Thanks for posting these links ....... I've enjoyed viewing .... it's slow here today in 'meltdown Dubai' ..... we're in the middle of a mini sandstorm ..... I kind of like sandstorms ..... reminds me of 'snow days' at home ........ days when everything stops cos there's not a thing you can do except let it snow Kevin
