We started making quarter-scale tires in 1986, and we started out as a hobby – there were no tires available back then. We are already in the rubber molding business already, so it was an easy step to get into quarter-scale. We kept making tires, and our first tire was for the front of a sprint car. That was our very first tire. Then we progressed into Grand National tires, and kept trying different things, making improvements here and there. The next thing you knew, we had a whole line of tires. We have watched the quarter-scale sport grow from day one until what it is now, and seen all the improvements to the chassis. Even tires have greatly improved. Even when the average person has minimal experience, he’s now able to take control of a quarter-scale car and do quite well. Other changes we have seen in quarter-scale is dirt track racing has been coming back within the last couple of years – there’s probably around six dirt tracks around the USA. Australia is also quite active in dirt racing. We have seen different classes come and go; some of the first cars were sprint cars, then after about ten years they started dying off, and about two years ago they started coming back again real strong. The Montgomery track is very professional, very well run, a first class facility. The track itself is very easy to drive, nice and smooth, with slight banking, wide sweeping turns, and seems to be very easy on tires. The drivers have adapted to it very easily – there’s fewer spin outs than at other tracks.
