Arrived back in town at 12:30am this morning from 3 days at the Warrnambool Sprintcar Classic with Jeff and Jason Griffith and Bill Drew. Here's a sample of the sights.
This McFadden car was hyped up for a huge unveiling on Saturday morning. The unanimous decision of the 1/4 scale racers from NSW, VIC and S.A was that it was....well... extremely ordinary! Crap was the word used most often. It actually looks better here than it is. The finish is like a flatish chrome. Sorry James!
Always terrific to be part of a huge crowd. Place was sold out and locked down at 3:00pm for Sunday night's main event.
Temps were 35 plus on Sunday afternoon. Not good for sprintcar racing. Place resembled a drag strip in some of the heats. They work miracles at Warrnambool and the track was racy by Feature time.
Premier Speedway...Sunday evening.....always a good place to be!
Spent time with Clinton after the Show. The AWT Team with Ian Madsen at the wheel, finished 9th.They're off the Adelaide for the Australian Title next weekend. Also caught up with some 1/4 scale racers from around the country, including Victorian whizz Matt Turner. He informed us that he intended to dust off his V5 car and come to Sydney for a run this year. Matt now races at the pointy end of the Formula 500 Class in Vic.
Everyone should try and get to Warrnambool for the Classic. It's the best weekend of sprintcar racing in Australia and they have been keeping that standard for 40 years.
