Going through my stuff today I came across these photos. This is Zanter Raceway at Rouse Hill. With the current talk about cars short lapping, these photos stood out. Look how we solved the problem back in the mid 1980s.....roof tiles on the pole line. Hit those in 1/10 scale sprintcar and you knew immediately that you were off line.... LQSS Zanter old boys... G, Not yet mate...they're here somewhere! Did find this one though......
Drivers stand....what stand.. ..and if you look closely above the track in turn 1 one can see the transponder loop bridge, held up by the 2 plastic stools. The readout for the AMB system is in that "state of the art" caravan. 3 of the drivers in this pic went on the race 1/4 scale sprintcars at LQSS @ SSME. Photographer unknown

Behind the camera man, was a shop full of 1/10th scale parts for every brand of car. So you didn't have to carry spares, as you could buy them at the track. The lap scoring computer didn't need to be manned during a race. You'd set it for 8 minutes, we'd all race till our batteries went flat, then you go and check how you went. It would give you the finishing order after 8 min's. usually around 75 laps would be the winner. Track record was about 6 sec's

When i first started in rc racing it was on the track in the background with 1/12th scale and the speedway track was overgrown with grass. There were a numer of guys who thought it would be fun to get the track going agian and we started clearing the grass and with the help of Noel who owned Zanter more loam was added which would have been around 1983/4. The cars that we ran were all scratch built which we all agreed was a rule from bits of 1/12th and 1/10th scale cars ie Associated,Bolink, Jomack AYK etc ... I supplied the timber for the fence and the ridge capping the we used on the corners which were further infield back then. With the RC10 coming on the seen the racing changed from what the original guys started with and many of us moved on to other classes. Rob L and I still race side by side now as we did back then. GB
