Steamer wrote.... "only one problem they have independent suspension don't waste your money guys"... Found this very interesting commentary on independent suspension by Don Edmunds. It was in his Catalogue from 1964 until he sold the business. Racing in this country has undergone some radical changes in the last few years. A chassis design revolution has taken place at Indianapolis, the cars of this new era dominate at the speed- way and on the Championship Trail. However, on the short tracks throughout the country, while the coming of the new era seems inevitable, the cars have as yet remained unchanged. This situation is very unfortunate for the sport because the new chassis offer many advantages over the obsolete equipment now being run. It also places the young Sprint or Modified driver, with an eye towards Championship racing, in a difficult position, because he is no longer gaining any knowledge of equipment resembling the type in which he some day hopes to compete. The importance of chassis know how can be seen in the difficulty many of the Indianapolis drivers, some with years of track racing experience, are having in adjusting to the new type of car. If things do not change in this traditional Indianapolis training ground the next generation of speedway drivers may well come from some other form of racing.
Lee Kusman, Howard Linne and Don after this car set fast time at the Pheonix Mile.
Don regards this car as the best he ever designed and built. Four wheel independent, it was a design that would have given independent suspension experience to upcoming drivers and car owners. It was killed by U.S.A.C. politics. If midgets had gone this direction, would the Indy 500 be dominated by foreign drivers as it is today, or would sprint and midget drivers be strong contenders?
Solid axles front and rear, still used by sprints and midgets, is a concept in use since the late 1890's, more than a 100 years.

I made some inquiries on websites in the 'States, to which I belong, and this is the answer I just received from racer5c, a noted historian....
"Actually I heard Edmunds bought it back and it's now in Oregon "
BUGGER...... I hope that this is incorrect!

Bugger ... The story is true and been confirmed by Don Edmunds himself. Photos of the car arriving at his son's house in Long Beach California and being removed from the packing...
It's now according to Don, " happily back in Oregon" Wonder what he paid to get his treasure back after all these years?

I think GT brought the edmunds roadster to oz to run on the pavement at Liverpool. At the time he was running the 'Winfield Wedge' and thought if they would let the wedge run, maybe they would let the roadster run and he could dominate midget racing untill everyone bought one. As Rush did with the 'Anderson' sprintcar.

got a reply from my email
Hi, Sorry for the delay in responding. I've been very busy building a local 1/5 scale RC dirt oval track to race the sprints on so that has been taking up all of my time. I haven't built any of the sprint car conversions for a while. I've got product in a few hobby stores here in Washington state and I'm trying to keep up with the local demand for these. Locally, I sell the body/chassis at the racetrack for $250.00. People already need to have the Baja. You can check out some of what we are doing at Area52rc.com. Thanks for your interest. Rob
